Cabot's Pueblo Museum

Generously sponsored by

Earth Day is a special day when we honor our planet by understanding our environment through various activities:

  • Learn about the MSWD award-winning drinking water.
  • View a 3D watershed model created by Desert Hot Springs High School R.E.A.L. Academy.
  • Join SteamRocket for Shake, Rattle, and Flow to explore the life of an aluminum can.

Cabot Yerxa built the pueblo (museum) using recyclable materials. He believed in cultural respect and these programs capture the essence of sharing culture with each other and the community.

Artisans at the Pueblo

Cabot believed in creating and nurturing an artistic community. In this spirit, we invite local artists to Cabot’s Pueblo Museum to share their artwork with Desert Hot Springs and the wider Coachella Valley. Artisans at the Pueblo embody Cabot’s vision of bringing art, culture, and people together.

Oaxaca alebrijes wood sculptures painters are Julia Fuentes and Reina Ramirez

Alebrijes, or Oaxaca wood carvings, are creatures carved out of wood and painted with patterns and designs from the artists’ creativity. Julia and Reina are known for their Zapotec designs and techniques.

Julia is a third-generation wood carving artist who learned numerous traditional techniques while working in her family’s workshop, which she continues to use today. She also incorporates her style of Zapotec symbolism to combine the past and the present.

Reina has been painting for over 30 years. Her experience is reflected in the precision of her paint designs, the beautiful mixture of colors, the expert shading, and the incorporation of Zapotec symbolism.

Reina will have a fee-based workshop where one can paint their own alebrije. Materials are included.
