Last visited when Cole was still alive. One of the most profound things in my life happened while touring the museum.....only six of us on tour. Rest of tour went upstairs and I lingered a moment downstairs in the "laundry room," flooded with light. I was by myself, gazing in wonderment at a display case with the arrowheads, papoose beadings and moccasins, etc, when I heard the door ten feet away shut. I looked up and there was Cabot, with the curly salt and pepper hair, shoe-button eyes, handlebar mustache---staring at me. I instinctively said "I'm not taking anything...I'm just looking!"....realizing, in the moment, I could see the rough-hewn door THROUGH him. I glanced back at the display case, realized what I had seen in an instant, looked up---GONE. I was so stunned (and still am...this was 1995) I could hardly speak. Saying nothing to everyone else, my husband and I went in the gift shop after the tour and spoke with our guide about it, describing what I had seen. He asked if I'd ever seen a picture of Cabot or been there before, and of course I hadn't. He said "turn around," and there on the wall was a newspaper photograph of Cabot from the 1960's looking just as I had seen him, in the same outfit I asked the guide if he had seen him...."yes," he replied. "He's here." True story. I would like to come back to visit!!

I was a friend of both Cole Eyraud and Lois Black Hill (who owned Miracle Manor across from the museum). Every time I'd come in to the desert to stay at Miracle Manor I'd pop over to say hello to Cole and he'd take me out for dinner and then tell me some more stories about Cabot Yerxa and the museum. His tours through the museum were always fun and packed with information about Cabot and Portia. I loved going to the observation room, and then experiencing the huge "whole house" fan that Cole would turn on up there to pull out the hot air. Both he and Lois Black Hill were part of my lasting and fond memories on Miracle Hill. I am so happy that the museum has been "re-awakened" as part of the history of DHS. See you in 2012! Peace, Florence Riggs

Dear Ms. or Mr.: Dr. Stuart Scott and I recently published a large-format, color book about the artists and pottery of Mata Ortiz. Because you are hosting an exhibition of Mata Ortiz pottery, the book might be a timely sales item in your museum shop/gallery. The website for the book is www.mataortizartists.com. Please click on view sample gallery to see some of the artists and their work. We offer the standard 40% wholesale discount for a price to you of $17.97 plus shipping. The suggested retail price is $29.95, but there is no printed price on the book so you could sell it for whatever price you decide. Dr. Scott worked on the original excavation of the site of Paquime. The ancient pottery from this site was the inspiration for modern Mata Ortiz pottery; I have worked with the potters of Mata Ortiz for 27 years, helping them develop new designs and to market their pottery in the U.S. Please let me know if you have any questions and if you would like to order copies of our book for your gallery. Sincerely, John Bezy John Bezy johnbezyinc@earthlink.net Earthlink Revolves Around You.

Hi there It's good to see things are going well for Cabot's place. I spent many spell bound hours with Cabot as a small child and also had the honor of being a tour guide for Cole in the 70's after I got out of the Marines. We only charged a dollar back then for a tour. It's hard to believe that almost 50 years since Cabot gave his last tour. Would love to know how what all is going on if someone would care to write. Thanks Bob

An old friend, John Mahoney, who is a volunteer at the museum sent me the link for the museum. Delightful! Would love to visit someday.

On April 16th, 2011, we finally toured Cabot's Museum and we will probably do it again now that we have discovered it. We will be taking others, family and friends, to the museum as it is terrific and very educational. Our tour guide, the museum historian, made the place come alive for us. Yes, we will do it again as it is worth it.

Hello friends - Muffi and Anita, I was just wondering if any of the beautiful prints David Salter made of my Lakota Spirits Series, from the show I had at Cabot's, were ever sold. Thank you and I wish you all the best.

A fine restoration. My first of many tour visits was with Cole E. in about 1993 as guide. I was very disturbed at the disrepair which was allowed before renovattion .

We must get down there and visit this museum. I just saw Huell Houser go through it and now I want to see it in person.

Dear sirs, In the course of investigating a totally different subject, I came across this article in the March 1976 issue of Desert Magazine: Cabot Yerxa's Monument To The Hopis, http://www.dezertmagazine.com/mine/1976DM03/index.html Its on page five. I thought you might like it. It talks about how the city intended to tear it down in 1968.
